Back when this trip was just a pipe dream, I was quizzing a work colleague about speaking 'Afrikaans'. She had started to drip feed me words and phrases -one per week- before I left to work elsewhere.
Here they are....
Word:"hoe vreemd" Pronounced: "ho fremd" (with some spit around the 'fr' bit...) Meaning: "How odd?" or "How strange?"
Word: dol Pronounced: dole Meaning: 'Manic' or 'busy'
Word: jol Pronounced: jol Meaning: 'Party' or 'to party'
Word: hardloop Pronounced: herdlop Meaning: 'Running' or 'to run'
Word: opgevonde Pronounced: oopfond Meaning: excited
Word: groot Pronounced: groot Meaning: 'great' or 'big'
Word: babbelas Pronounced: Meaning: Hangover
Word: My Pronounced: may Meaning: my
Word: Jou Pronounced: shou Meaning: Your
Word: maar Pronounced: mare Meaning: "but"
Word: en Pronounced: en Meaning: "And"
Word: Ek Pronounced: eh Meaning: "I"
Word: liefie Pronounced: lefy Meaning: "Lovely"
Word: of Pronounced: ef Meaning: "If"
That's a start anyway..... feel free to add/correct any word/pronunciation/translation that looks wrong. It was a while back when this list was created.....

Excellent and as you say entirely useless i've tried to make a sentence from the words and it justs sounds as though i've had to much beer
Would be good to get clarity on - 'we won the series' or in the event of a disaster - 'oh well it's only a game'
